Region X Beats the Florida Heat
on the Peace River
For more photos - click here
On June 20th, over 60 members from the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association (FSAWWA) Region X donned their life jackets and suited up to paddle the Peace River. The Region X’s first annual Peace River Paddle and BBQ was on at the Nav-A-Gator off of Kings Highway in DeSoto County.
Through our generous sponsors and a nominal paddle fee, the event raised over $1,400, all of which was donated to Water for People. Many thanks go to the Peace River Paddle and BBQ sponsors: Jones Edmunds, Stantec, Stanley Consultants, Carollo, ITT Water Wastewater, McKim and Creed, Greeley and Hansen, Gap Engineering, Hazen and Sawyer, PBS&J, Envirosales of Florida, Mader Electric, and the City of North Port. We thank Kelly Blake of Stantec for her hard work in coordinating this canoe trip, and we hope it will be an annual event.
7th Annual Model Water Tower
Competition

Our 7th Annual Model Water Competition was held at Haile Middle School in Bradenton on Saturday, November 14, 2009. Our first competition in 2003 had 4 students. Our competition has continued to grow each year; teachers and students have really embraced the concept and benefit of the contest as we had RSVPs from 140 students and 8 schools.
We thank Tod Phinney who had the vision to start this program, and we especially thank Seton Katz of Sarasota County Utilities who continues his work each year to make this program successful.
